I have both of those lens. End up selling the Nikon 16-85 VR and kept the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Then again, I do have the 17-55mm f2.8 as my primary I guess. I find living w/o f2.8 was a pain. I would rather have that over VR. The ability Tamron could do macro at the same time was a huge bonus. The boken was great. Of having D200 for 5+ years, the Tamron was my primary lens for 1/2 of the time.
