Someone on one of the Canon forums said that someone with more credibility than they have said that Nikon's "silent partner" producing the sensor chips for the new Nikon cameras is actually Canon. Considering the magical ways that the Japanese culture and businesses work, I am curious to hear what Nikon people here think/believe.

I'm not worked up over new announcements because my 4.5 year old DSLR still works fine, so please don't take this as an attempt to stir up thoughtless responses. :-)

Back when Canon was founded, Nikon made their lenses. Sony and Nikon and Canon all use Sony CCD and/or LCD parts on all their cameras. From a business perspective, it would make sense for Canon to try and make a profit from their CMOS research by selling chips to the (Japanese) competition. Sort of a "rising tide lifts all (Japanese) boats".

What are your thoughts?

The thread in the Canon forum is littered with responses here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=24568537
