Merry Christmas! Well, assuming you're not spending too long with your head in a RAW converter.
Thanks to Ken_5D for breaking me away from my well deserved rest, I have investigated your claims Ken and while Bibble does have different interpolation / sharpening algorithms than ACR I still see no evidence that Sony isn't applying noise reduction to RAW files before they are saved (as your posts imply).
The samples below show that like it or not noise reduction is applied before the A700's RAW images are saved; see D300 crops for an example of unmanipulated ISO 3200 RAW. (Note that one of the big differnces *by default* between Bibble and ACR appears to be sharpening, I had to turn ACR's sharpening up to 100 to match the output from Bibble; this out of preference to turning Bibble's down).
