After having the A700 for a couple of days, and having taken several hundred shots, I must conclude something.

Sony really rose to the occasion with this camera. We all know about the feature set of the camera, so I won't list it all. But to me Sony had two ways to go here. They could have developed this camera in a vacuum, or they could have listened to camera users.

Clearly, they did the latter. This camera feels great, focusses with speed and authority (something I could never say about my 7D comparatively). When I fire the shutter its a gratifying sound, and it makes me want to shoot at full speed.

I've heard some people comment that it will be hard (if you are a KM fan) to shoot with the Sony badge on the front of the camera. I must be honest - I kind of felt the same way. It just didn't "feel" right to me. But I must say, Sony has really earned my respect with this camera. Better still - they aren't done yet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fanboy. I grew out of blind loyalty to brand names years ago. But at the end of the day I call 'em as I see 'em, and Sony has a winner here.

If they continue to listen and give the marketplace what it wants, things can only get better.

I am feeling very, very good about this.
