Yesterday, I had the privilege of visiting and photographing Ellis & Son Iron Works in Memphis, Tennessee. This foundry was established in 1862, and the current owner, now in his eighties, is the great-grandson of the founder. Not only did I have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ellis and hearing the story of the family business, he gave me free access to the entire foundry, which is filled with aging equipment. Below is a series of some of the photographs that I made during my visit. Comments and constructive criticism welcome. Technical information is beneath each photograph.
Enjoy,
Matt

'At our best and most fortunate we make pictures because of what stands in front of the camera, to honor what is greater and more interesting than we are. We never accomplish this perfectly, though in return we are given something perfect -- a sense of inclusion. Our subject thus redefines us, and is part of the biography by which we want to be known.' --Robert Adams, Why People Photograph
