Nonsense aside, I have the same going on as Allan. Good 4 different sets of Powerex 2700 NiMH what work fine/long/show full in istD. But 3 sets don't even turn the power on in my new K-x, regardless how many times turned on or how long left in to "read" the batteries. Auto-battery or NiMH setting doesn't change anything. 4th set will turn K-x on, but lasts about 4 pictures. All four "totally depleted" sets placed immediately to istD show full charge and work like a charm. It doesn't take a university degree to see a possible problem in circuitry. One Lithium set what came with it works fine, of course... -- M.A.
