After ordering myself a Helios 44 58 mm F/2 I gave it a bit of a test run after work today. I noticed that the aperture blades weren't stopping down via the aperture ring so took the lens off to have a butchers...The lens screwed out leaving the adapter in the mount and for some reason wouldn't budge while I used a jewellry screwdriver to depress the catch. Basically, it was stuck good and proper.

So, I evetually used the screwdriver to wrench it out. Result, the adapter snapped in half, not pretty (nor was my language during this whole debacle)...

Anyhoo, I managed to get the adpater out with little damage to the mount (Hooray) but am now lacking an adapter with which to use my new lens...

So.

Two questions;

1) Can anybody reccommend an adapter that doesn't involve to much fannying around to get out of the mount after using an old lens?

2) why did it get stuck? What steps can I take to prevent it happening again? (My heart wouldn't take another incedent like earlier)

3) Bonus Question. Why wasn't the lens stopping down via the aperture ring? When I dismounted the lens it worked fine by depressing the button on the back and turning it. Perhaps because I goofed with the adapter it wasn't aligned correctly?

That's more than 3 questions. Sorry.

Help appreciated as instead of enjoying a new lens to enjoy (which was remarkable at f2 by the way) I have no way of using it and am not sure if it's faulty.

I love photography
