But do the users undestands that the AF double-ended loop, instead of Canon's single ended loop, means higher accuracy? (it is common her that users switching from Canon to Pentax suddenly founds that they have more in-focus images than they are used to).
Anyway, the K20D has "Catch-in focus" - set in C)ustom menu - that disables the double-loop for AF, for those that values speed over accuracy. Only Pentax gives the user an option. Canon does not do it. :)
As for low light sensitivity - Pentax are working on it, but their solution isn't finished yet. The problem is that sensors for both vertical and horisontal lines are less sensitive for light than only vertical or only horsiontal sensors are. This is why the 11 point AF system with 9 double-points is slower in low light than the 6 linear-only system in the MZ-S. Pentax are working on a solution for this, but the solution wasn't ready in time for the K20D release. Pentax thought it was better to release the K20D now, because competition has released new cameras, than waiting another year with the K10D replacement.
Again, Pentax lack of development resources means that they can't do everything at once. This time their main focus was the new sensor. Sony was not interrested in selling their 12Mp CMOS to Pentax, and using the 10Mp in the K10D replacement when the competition used 12Mp, wasn't seen as an alternative for Pentax. They had to invest in a new sensor, that was the only alternative. -- Take care // R http://www.flickr.com/photos/raphaelmabo
