Hello,
Should the new Pentax flagship be bigger and heavier? Or, smaller and lighter?
My first SLR was the Pentax KM and the K1000. This was when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Those cameras where big, heavy and rugged. Even after over 20 years of use, they still look and work like new. They could probably keep working for another 20 years. I come from a generation where you could judge the quality of anything, by the size and the weight of the object. This axiom still holds for many things in our modern world.
When I got my K10, I also got the grip. It feels solid and sturdy. I think the grip should be an integrated part of the camera and not an add on. I went to the Henry’s camera show in Ottawa last autumn. I had the occasion of holding the Canon Mark III and the Nikon D3 (pre production model). They do feel real good in your hands.
In the early days, Pentax used to be a leader in new camera advancement. I hope that the new Pentax flagship will be able to give the big boys, a good run for their money. Don’t get me wrong, I love my K10. I will stay with Pentax and probably keep my K10 as a back up body. A guy can dream, can't he?
