Big thumbs up for Friedman's book. It covers the basics in a thorough but not boring way and has lots of specific 5D/7D info. Despite being relatively knowledgeable and reading the manual cover to cover, I learned quite a few things from his book.

I think someone coming from the point and shoot world will find his discussions of settings he uses for various situations very valuable.
