I recently bought both a NIKON D300 (for a friend of mine)
and a NIKON D90 for myself. Although I had previously used
Canon SLRs I decided to make the change because I am a
Film Studies student and the video function of the D90 seemed
highly attractive for some experimental work along taking stills.

After taking the camera home I checked both D300 and D90
and unfortunately I found a dead pixel on the LCD of the D90.
I did not bother checking the sensor and took it back to the
store where they exchanged it for another. To cut the long
story short, a 2nd, 3rd and 4th cameras, ALL had one or more
defective pixels on the sensor, always on the side, never on the
centre of the sensor.

It became evident that it was not worth taking any more boxes
at home and going through the frustrating proccess of finding
the dead pixels on the NIKON D90.

So I got a CANON 40D instead which I checked and was flawless
right from the first one I took home.

In the case that NIKON has decided to stock the defective sensors
and LCDs that could not be placed on the more professional model
D300, and they are placing them on the D90 it is absolutely shamefull.
When you are buying a consumer model you know that you might
discover a hot pixel on a 12mp sensor, but to come across four cameras
that all have a defective sensor or LCD seems to built a worrying pattern.

Does any other user have the same isssue?
Or to ask the question defferently,
-how many have decided to compromise and keep a D90 with a dead pixel?
-how many D90s did you have to test before getting one with a perfect senson?
