A comment from the instructor in my photography calss got me thinking, and I thought it might be a refreshing topic for the forum.

One of the things that my instructor said was that it is really important to separate your personal emotional response to a scene and to focus on what would garner an emotional response from the viewer of the photos.

For example, you are photographing a scene near where you grew up, and have nostalgic feelings about what you are shooting. You thinks it's a great photo, but you don't get the same kind of response from others. That's where you need to seperate yourself from the scene and compose the photo so that it it technically competent and interesting not only to you, but to your potential viewers/clients, etc.

I am also a big believer that the vision comes from the photographer, so how do you seperate your emotions from a scene like this?

Here is a photo I am particularly fond of because of what it means to me. What kind of emotional response does it garner from you or do you think it's just an average shot? Does this demonstrate the concept above?

I'm not looking for C&C, but feel free to do so if you like.
