This has been going on for a while now. Basically:

- any pure reds tend to clip to magentas
- magentas that are like metallic go to a very nasty "crayola town"
- greens often hyper saturate losing detail and becoming "velvia crayola", though not always
- some red-oranges get the magenta tinge
- skin colors are sort of ok but have this color P&S quality to them at times
- blues- particularly purely blues or metallic blues get magentaish casts and also go to saturated crayola town often.

I remember some of these things from my FZ20... it's been years now...

I am enjoying a lot the dynamic B&W but the color modes... I think the only way I will be satisfied is shooting RAW. IT's not the sensor- saw in RAW the colors are right (with dcraw). This is aggravating considering the nice JPEG tweaks/options Panasonic has. I am going to try a couple more things but it's not looking very good.

I can say that this to me would single handedly make me NOT WANT the G1, unless something seriously changed here. If I was Panasonic I would get a team of engineers to examine long and hard Fuji Astia, ProVia, Velvia and Kodak EktaChrome, Kodachrome films.. there's a reason why those films have the color characteristics they have.

You can see this in Olympus and Fuji cameras.

Andreas Feininger (1906-1999) 'Photographers — idiots, of which there are
so many — say, “Oh, if only I had a Nikon or a Leica, I could make great
photographs.” That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. It’s
nothing but a matter of seeing, and thinking, and interest. That’s what
makes a good photograph.'
