I'm just back from my annual Old F**ts ski trip to the Alps and although my LX1 just slips neatly into the top pocket of my ski jacket, I couldn't help worrying how it would cope with the shock of a wipeout so I only ended up taking it up the slopes on one day.

I would expect that the moveable lens elements that make up the OIS are locked somehow when the camera is powered off, but you intuitively feel that the camera must be somehow more fragile than one that doesn't have OIS.

Does anyone have any experience of how shockproof OIS is? Was I worrying needlessly, or am I just paranoid since I lost my last camera after my wife sent it on a short but fatal one-metre journey onto a concrete floor!
