...you will find (to your surprise) three interesting things:
1. The framing of the scene MOVES around on both camera's sequence, yet the cameras are "tripod" mounted (!?). 2. Ghosting is present on BOTH cameras' sequence. 3. The 1DMKIII is consistenly or predominantly back-focused. It is focusing/tracking, but most consistently BACK (upon close examination of images).
It just seems that Canon asked R.G. to execute these tests with the camera's config. as supplied by Canon. However, that 300mm f/2.8 does not seem to be properly calibrated (at least, to me).
This whole thing is now boiling-down to what R.G.'s findings are and what Canon's comments/suggestions are... and there will be no easy way out, unless Canon engineers get to the field, perform a COMPLETE AF subsystem test-protocol (shared with all of us), perform necessary tuning on the field, and publish all final results, findings and optimized setup.
