I don't know what you guys think, but for me, the D3 sensor installed in a D300 body = the mythical Canon 3D we've been waiting for years now.

The D3 sensor seems to be a excellent contender (as is the 5D sensor actually) and for me hits the sweet spot of pixel count / noise performance.

The D300 body is a semi-pro body with lots of pro features without the weight and chunky feeling of pro bodies (Nikon Dx or Canon 1 series).

Both combined would make my dream camera and I'd certainely switch in a heartbeat. I don't see Nikon do that unfortunately.

Sure Canon has all the ingredients required to match this (although the 5D/40D body is not as "nice" as D300 but not too far off) but seemed to be ever reluctant to deliver.

I still hope for a slighlty upgraded 5D/40D body, 5D sensor, 1D AF and higher fps to come to market some time under 3D name or whatever Canon wants to name it, I still hope....
