My dearly beloved old 350D, which has seen much and travelled much, has decided that it's taken one picture too many. I was hoping someone here could help me diagnose what's gone wrong and how much it might cost to get it fixed.
I was shooting away as usual, when all of a sudden the camera locked up, with the lens stopped down and the mirror lifted. Removing the batteries (both of them) has no effect, nor does removing the lens. The shutter is, as far as I can see, closed, but I don't know if it actually took the shot or not. I suspect this is the infamous shutter failure, has anyone else had an experience like this? The camera is utterly unresponsive - no indicators or display at all.
It's unfortunate that this had to happen in the middle of a holiday, but cest la vie. I'll be back in the UK (London) next week, and will get it fixed there. Suggestions of where to send it (if not Canon's official service centre) would be most welcome. I'm hoping not to spend ridiculous amounts on this; if it's likely to be expensive, I might think of waiting for a bit and buying a more recent body.
