I am going to buy my first SLR soon, I am currently considering whether to get the Canon 1000D or the 450D. Here are the cameras:

I am thinking about the 450D but is the extra money worth it when you use it? Also the 450D includes a lens with Image stabilisation and a £30 cashback.

There is also an offer in argos for the 1000D £435 where you get the camera kit, 4GB card card and tripod: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5563188/Trail/searchtext%3E1000D.htm which is making me consider getting this camera if the extras arent worth it.

I have looked at the comparison http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1000d/page2.asp and the only difference I can see are the points, the Image stabalisation lens provided with the 450D and the better continuous shot of the 450D but is it worth the extra money?

I thought about the Nikon D60/50/40 but I haven't been able to try one in the shop.
