I was thinking about getting a fixed focal length lense for some nicer quality photos, yet I'm not quite ready (resp. able) to do any investments into any >800$ lenses.

So I was thinking to get myself started with the low-cost EF 50 f/1.8 II (which is apparently great in terms of prize/performance ratio and for that price an absolute must-have according to photozone.de) ........and lateron, I'd move on to a EF f/1.8 USM.

Does this make any sense at all, or are those 2 lenses in regards to focal-length so close to each other, that I might as well skip the 50mm and go for the 85mm right away?

I intend to use it mostly for available-light photography...and of course portraits (at times).

Thanks for your 2 cents!
Daniel
