I've owned the XSi for just over 24 hours and I'm already feeling the need for a long telephoto lens for the type of photography I enjoy.

Most of the images in my very sparse XSi gallery were taken with the kit lens (which I like!) and are cropped significantly to try to get the effect of a telephoto lens. There is minimal post processing.

I know with the right lens I can do better.

Any lens suggestions for decent mid-priced lenses that would be up to the task? I'd like Image Stabilization and autofocus AND lightweight. Am I asking too much? I've done a little reading on all this but my head is in a tizzy right now with information overload.

btw, the XSi is my very first DSLR (I've owned SLRs). Despite it's weight and size compared to compact digital cameras I've used, I think I'm going to like it though it will take some time to get used to.

Thank you.
