CR 21 cable release

Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum. My problem is that my cable release CR-21 has suddenly stopped working with the SD 14. The remote control RS 31 still works. I was able to use the self timer setting to set off the camera (night photography) but the cable release is very handy. Any ideas?
