The Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2 will only give you 2-3 ft of reach to your light stand - not very useful. But if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can build a perfectly functional extension cord to work with the Canon cord using Cat 6 ethernet cable and two pairs of connectors. Here's what mine looks like, and I have tested it with a Cat 6 cable up to 12 ft long (total cord length about 15 ft)...

Cat 6 cable uses thicker wires, so is better than Cat 5 to avoid signal loss due to higher resistance in thinner wires).
