I'm in need of an upgrade to my tripod.

Gear:
D700 (currently have)
24-70mm f/2.8(currently have)
70-200mm f/2/8 VRII (when it is available)
70-300mm VR (currently have)
50mm (currently have)
105mm f/2.8 VR (after the 70-200mm VRII)
200mm f/2 VR (maybe in the future)
SB-600 (currently have)
SB-800 (currently have)
SB-900 (currently have)

Above is my goal. I'm looking for a tripod that can handle my heaviest lens. My thoughts are to get something that I won't need to upgrade and say will my kit for years. I believe in the "one and done" theory. I don't want to break the bank but if I need to take a little longer because of the cost then so be it.

What would you recommend that would be a great vibration dampener? I would also like it to double as a mono-pod.

Are the carbons as good to have for the long run? Would appreciate the difference in weight but being so light would it withsand wind and the weight of the lens/body?

Contradicting myself - I have thought about the Berlebach wooden tripods as they are inexpensive and well made. Wood is a great vibration reducer and aren't as heavy as one might think.. but that would be a "stop gap" I think?

Any help is appreciated...
