Can anyone recommend a nice versatile zoom lens for less than $1200 (for the D700)? Will shoot mainly people, street photos and landscapes.

I just purchased a new Nikon D700 thinking my existing Tamron lenses would fit (nothing like having a Nikon D700 and no way to take pictures. My hands are itching)!!! I plan to purchase a higher-end lens after I've replenished my savings account.
