I recently had the occasion to visit the Toronto Zoo, one of my favorite places for photography in the Greater Toronto area.

It's in a huge park setting in the Rouge River valley north-east of the city. Along with the wildlife in natural settings, it's a beautiful spot in any season but especially so in the Fall with the colors of a beautiful November day. I will post a few Fall shots at the Zoo tomorrow.

If you confine the visit to the outdoor exhibits it can take 3 to 4 hours to cover all the areas that the zoo covers. Although I have done so in the past, it is possible to carry the Sigma 150-500 OS lens or the 70-200 VR lens. But this time I opted to go "light" and just took the D700 & the 70-300 VR lens ... a very capable combination that performed really well for the day's photography.

Here is a search URL at my photoblog that records some of the animals on display. Also at the URL you will find some previous visits with different equipment as well as some shots from the Zoo in Naples, Florida .. a great place to viist if you are in southwest Florida, although much smaller in size compared to Toronto's Zoo.
