Why only one choice when Canon has three over 18 MP? Canon has a high end pro very expensive model, a mid priced model and a very economical FF model with 21 MP and 1080 video.

It's a very simple question, but is the answer simple, and will a correct answer give any clues as to whether Nikon intends to change this and change it soon. I mean, who doesn't want the choice of a high quality FF high MP 1080 video mid priced camera from Nikon?

Can it really be that they don't think anyone wants one, or can it be that they don't know how to build a good one? So if that's not it, why not offer one, what exactly is the problem?

What I have read here already:
I don't need more than 12 MP
I don't want a high MP model with bad quality (like the 5DM2)
Nikon is just about to release a D700X type camera
A high MP mid priced camera is coming in early 2010
Nikon is making plenty of money without one so they don't care
Nikon already has the best high MP camera so they don't want to sell another one
Nikon only wants to perfect 12 MP and doesn't care about high MP
Nikon wants to protect the sales of the D3X and Nikon will never tell you what they intend to do next because that hurts their sales.

None of the above opinions, even though I think they are not true, seem to bother Canon, so what's Nikon's deal?

The reason I mention this is because none of these opinions really help me understand why they don't have other mid priced high MP models and they don't offer any real insight into whether Nikon intends to release one soon, which is what I'm trying to figure out, partly because I need one and partly because I dislike their silence.

The only reason that makes sense to me is that Nikon is working on a super camera, one that does it all, but it's proving to be difficult at the price range they know people want and with the bad economy everything related to this camera has slowed down and we won't see it or hear about it for at least a year. But I have no proof of this and Nikon is silent.
