I just recently bought a used Nikon F401 (also known as N4004 model) which come with an AF zoom Nikkor 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5 . I assume that this camera was made in the late 1980s. The camera itself appears working (not yet fully tested), although I seem to have problem with the batteries (perhaps the contact, or need to get cleaned). My other Nikon 35mm film range camera (built around the same time) appears to have the same problem.... contacts in the battery compartment.

My question is whether the lens is suitable for use with My S5. I do not want to jump and mount the camera and found out later that this particular lens model may not be compatible and even ends up damaging my S5. Any info on the use of this lens on an S5 is greatly appreciated. Can the lens be used fully automatic focus with S5? Or should I use the manual mode.

The instruction manual said that for use in F401 in auto focus option, you need to set the f/stop ring to the smallest (f/22) and locked in there (there is a push button to move it out from the f/22). When used in S5, do you need to keep this at f/22 too?

Thanks for the info. I want to be more careful with my S5 and make sure that it does not get damaged. Therefore this silly question.
