It was a foggy day today and went out with two 40D cameras. One with a sigma 18-50mm and one with a 100-400L. After about 4 hours shooting outside I went inside for lunch, I thought to pump in some dry warm air into the lens by pumping the 100-400L (which may have been a mistake to do) and reviewed some shots. After an hour I took it outside again. I composed and it would not shoot, no response at all, after a couple of presses on the shutter button a message appeared: Error 06, automatic dust removal failed, please contact manufacturer.
I tried removing the battery and reinserting it, it gave Error 99 shooting not possible, turn off and on and try again or remove battery. After that it gave another Error 06 and then I went home to dry it. It has been drying for about 4 hours with the lens removed. It still gives Error 99 shooting not possible. But no Error 06.
I should've let the camera and lens warm up in the bag inside and not pump the lens when the camera is still cold. With the warm air inside it probably cooled and condensed inside the body giving the errors. I hope that's it, and just some drying will fix it. The other body is fine though.
It's the body that has been sent in for shutter repair earlier: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=30416469
I let it dry overnight and see what happens, fingers crossed. If that doesn't help: luckily I have an extended warranty to send it in and repair it free of charge (plus the cost of the extended warranty of 90 euros, as repairs often cost 140-150 euros, I still think it's a good deal).
