7d autofocus question

I have the 7d with a 17-55, the firmware is 1.0.9. I don't understand the autofocus.

I press the shutter 1/2 way through and the view finder shows wchich sensors are being used by showing in black.

I don't change the subject, I lift my finger from the shutter and repress again half way the shutter but now it shows different sensors. Why? I haven't moved and the subject hasn't moved.

So why each time different sensors are hilighted?
