Spent three days of shooting with the 7D & 5D2 in Rome last week. The 135 f2 stayed on the 7D all the time, an ideal combo for street photography. I considered the 70-200 f4 IS for the zoom and the IS, but size (the 135 is heavy, but compact) and speed were more important. The 24-105 went with the 5D2.

While shooting I preferred the 7D over the 5D2. Partly because it's always exciting to work with a new tool, but I also found the 7D significantly more responsive and robust. Using the 7D was pure pleasure and I encountered no problems during the three days of shooting. Compared to the 50D it's a real step up. More solid and responsive, better grip and a new improved and expanded AF system. Not many have mentioned the spot AF option, but for me it feels like a significant improvement.

After post processing quite a number of captures from both bodies, I may add a few words on the 7D IQ and high iso noise. IQ in general; better than the 50D, but not very significant. Hi iso noise; on par with the 50D. Please note that these are findings based on examining captures without any kind of NR applied. (My impression is that the recent version of DPP in combo with the 7D is handling NR better than DPP/50D).

Finally: The 5D2 is in a different class when it comes to IQ and hi iso shooting. Compared to the 7D we're talking almost two stops. At iso1600 the 5D2 noise is comparable to what I find on iso400 frames from the 7D.
