Not trying to raid the casio forum... I had several casio EX-V7's. I've now replaced them with the Panasonic ZR1 which could also be called EX-V9 :)

The ZR1 is basically a greatly improved V7/V8. 8x optical zoom. You can zoom while recording video. Much better 25mm wide angle (night and day wider angle). Yes, it supports using 'extra zoom' like the V7 and V8 did (dedicated button for this feature). Size wise it fits in the factory-issue casio Ex-V7 case, so its not too big.

The other benefits are:
*Very fast focusing
720P HD Video 1280x720
better screen
wider angle
3cm true macro mode + macro zoom mode
True stabilized video not jittery like v7
Same size as V7/v8
Lots of scene modes + high dynamic mode
User scene mode
300+ battery life
Intelligent Auto mode pretty darn good*

The ZR1 improves most of the aspects of the V7/V8 in a similar size camera and you should seriously check it out if you loved the V-cameras.
