I was wondering if anyone knew whether Casio might be coming out with a successor to the EX-F1 - it is such a bold futuristic camera but needs a few 2009 upgrades (not the least of which would be a larger buffer). I had a chance to play with one today and came away very impressed, enough that I may end up getting one. If it had the ability to process its buffered images into a single video output I think it would be a lot more appealing (especially if it could record at least 10-15 seconds of burst files at 30fps). The only thing I didn't appreciate was the 300+ fps rates, which struck me as gimmicky: the quality was not what I'd call acceptable.

But the quality of the RAW stills (for a 6mp camera) and the 720 video mode is surprisingly good; just add a giant buffer and it could be a cheap alternative to Red's Scarlet. For those of us who just want to do occasional video shoots but more often just want to be able to take a short but extremely high quality video "clip" it would easily be the best choice. With the rapidly approaching convergence of video and still photography an F1 on steroids could suddenly become very relevant again. The very brief video you can (tediously) make out of its high-speed buffered images is /way/ above and beyond what I've seen in other cameras today, it's the only thing I've seen that remotely approaches "true" high-definition video in the price range

The 6mp sensor is plenty big enough, and honestly the samples I've seen from the FH20 and newer models are much less impressive. Sony designed the chip seen in the F1 for speed and certainly delivered, but it needs a good updated camera to unleash its full potential

PS Does anyone know if the chip is used on a camera other than the Ex-F1?
