Epson R280 discontinued?

Called B&H for a friend in regards to a portable inkjet printer she can take around to these young girls' beauty pageants she and her sister produce. I suggested the Epson R280, but when I got on the B&H website, it said the printer was discontinued.
The B&H guy said its replacement --- Epson Artisian, or something like that --- wasn't recommended by B&H (even though they sell them) because of its flimsy build...he recommended a comparably priced Canon (can't remember the model)...
Is there any meat to the Artisian's flimsy build allegation...can't for the life of me figure why Epson would put the "kapuee" to its "R" series of printers...had a R200 and currently use an R220...love 'em both...
