I know that this is not a particularly good comparison for your question, I dumped my (used) 80-200HSG after just 10 months of ownership for the Sony 70-200SSM and lost more than a few buck$, but I am very pleased with myself for doing it.
I never did see (appreciate) the mystique of the 80-200 lens. I just thought it was old ! So I had very little interest (none) in tracking down the (old) Minolta 70-200SSM version.
The Sony SSM really is a great lens. Go for it.
