I have shot the the Canon 1D series DSLRs for many years. I really know nothing about the point and shoot options. I know there are some good cameras available from Canon.

My wife says buy the daughters (18&25) new digital cameras for Christmas. I am so far behind on what is available I am asking for your recommendations/observations.

Both daughters have owned and used P&S cameras before and IMHO proven to be rough on the cameras they have had. Neither one does any involved editing and most of the images end up on face book. My oldest did take some impressive photos in Italy this year and actually had some of them printed (4x6 for a scrapbook)

I want to spend about $200 each on camera. Perhaps when the girls are a little less rough they will move up the feature/price ladder a bit. But that will be on their own dime.

I do remember that many of the lower end cameras had some serious noise issues at 400 ISO....hopefully, this has been improved upon.

I really appreciate any help from the fine members of this forum.
