I'm so glad that DPreview outlined the G10 flaws so neatly and honestly. I recently tried one of them out and found it quite poor. Shutter lag, slow glass and poor focusing were among it's issues. Focusing on these cameras really needs to be stepped up. In less than ideal light and zoomed in the G10 can't focus to save it's life. If you're used to ANY aspect of a DSLR, the G10 looks serious, but truly offers no advantage over other P&S types. For less money a Nikon D40 will beat the pants off the G10 in every respect and it's still a pretty small camera.
Of course some will "appreciate the G10 for what it does well" but they'll be lying to themselves since it's a very weak camera wrapped up in a nicely designed package.
After all these years it's still rather shocking that there isn't a reasonable performer in the P&S segment. One day a company will step up a make a P&S camera that behaves like a DSLR. It's NOT a hard thing to build.
And that leads me to the big BUT. And that's the fact that the G10 is no worse than most of the other P&S models around. It's just a bit more offensive because it's not cheap and all you get for the extra cash is a "serious" looking camera that gets laughed at by shooters in the know.
