This is the official thread for Challenge 78. If you haven't already done so, please visit the results thread for Challenge 77 before reading further:

Thank you Michael for your perseverance while hosting Challenge 77. You made it a real success I will do my best to maintain the very high standard you have set. The literary reference was an excellent and original idea that made our brains cross the bridge between the two arts.

And now, the Challenge 78 Assignment: SWEET LIGHT

For the purpose of this challenge I would define sweet light as the natural light you have just before sunset and after sunrise, and at other times under special weather conditions: the time when light is rapidly changing and object and scene gain an extra dimension and glow that makes you stop and shoot what under other light conditions is just a plain scene… the right light touch that touches the subject and the soul of the viewer.

Sweet Light and its beautiful effects are all around us. This theme allows everybody to participate with minimal restriction... your imagination is the only limitation. Please, just get involved, have some fun, and share your results.

Post processing can be used to get the most out of your shots. As always, voters will decide which photos best represent the theme at the end of the Challenge period.

Challenge 78 begins at 10am EDT (New York time) on Friday, September 24th, 2004. We should have the galleries up by Saturday. You will have two full weekends to take pictures.

--- GUIDELINES ---

These guidelines are meant to help things run smoothly for all... and to serve as a handy reference to answer common questions. Thanks for reading all this stuff again:

* Up to three (3) images are allowed in each of the two galleries (Eligible and Exhibition). Each photographer can choose whether to enter one or more photos per gallery. This should generally accommodate everyone's personal style and approach to the Challenges — whatever works best to make the "challenge" more fun for you.

* Please resize your images to no larger than 800 pixels on the longest
side before uploading to PBase (can be larger if a panoramic image).
This cuts down on too much usage, and it helps to preserve the quality
of your image upload for best viewing.

* Please post your questions and concerns within this thread for the most efficient response. One of us will address them as soon as possible.

* Challenge 78 will run from 10am EDT (New York time) on Friday, September 24th, 2004. and will end at 10am EDT on Tuesday, October 5th, 2004. Universal time tables will be posted in the galleries. A separate voting thread will be posted shortly after the end of the Challenge period.

* Eligible images must be taken with a Sony digital camera, and within the challenge time period. The winner of the Eligible category will host the next Challenge. All entries should include a date indicating when the photo was taken. EXIF data attached would be ideal (if available). EXIF data is a big help to a lot of viewers for a variety of reasons. If the EXIF data is not preserved, try writing it into your caption (by referring to the original photo's EXIF data that should be available before doing any photo processing). At a minimum, please include the date the photo was taken, and which camera was used. This is a popular request which I'm passingon here, and is a prerequisite for entries in the Eligible gallery. THANKS, everybody, for your friendly cooperation.

* Exhibition images can be obtained with any camera at any time. If you don't want to host the next Challenge, this is the gallery in which you should post your images. Camera details are encouraged, for general interest.

* Here's a link straight to the Challenge 78 galleries which now, under the new PBase upload arrangements, can be your direct point-of-entry to the galleries:

http://www.PBase.com/stfchallenge/challenge_78_main

***After all the problems with vandals, the STF Challenge's galleries are no longer public.

* If you have your own personal PBase account you should be able to post, edit and, if you wish, replace your own individual images by simply being logged in to your own Pbase account and clicking the "edit this gallery" link at the top of the relevant gallery screen. If you find that you can't do this then you will need to send us your PBase Username (the one you use to login) to stfchallenge@gmail.com. Do NOT send your personal password.

* If you don't have your own PBase account then you can still manage your entries via the same "edit this gallery" link. In this case you will need to enter the password "stfpost". This will give exclusive access to your own images and cookies must be enabled.

* To see fully illustrated upload instructions, visit:
http://www.PBase.com/stfchallenge/how_to_post

Everyone please join in & have fun with “Sweet Light”. All skill levels are equally welcome. The Challenges are about fun and sharing our common interest in photography. I look forward to your creative interpretations and participation in challenge 78!
