I have been using a Nikon Coolpix cameras for many years and I currently own a 990. I have taken over 9000 shots with this wonderful camera but now I want to upgrade.

I have been looking carefully into the new 8700, looking at hundreds of pictures on many sites, and have come to the conclusion that the 5700 takes better pictures than the 8700! The colours are better and there is clearly less noise. I wonder if Nikon have shot themselves in the foot by trying to squeeze eight million pixels onto the same size sensor. It looks as thougn they are trying to combat the noise by lowering the ISO settings to 50 > 400, rather than 100 > 800.

What do others think?

Spok.
