EN-EL1 battery not charging

Hello,

I am using a D90 with the EN-EL3e battery. It does not charge at all, meaning I put it in the charger, the light blinks for maybe 5 seconds and then goes off without charging the battery. When I put it into the camera not even the display (the one for controls on top of the camera) goes on, usually at least there the battery symbol blinks.
I have another battery of the same type and it charges and works perfectly, so it is not the charger.

I guess it's the battery? But so suddenly? Is it really defective or can I do something? And is there warranty by any chance (bought it a year ago or so, living in Canada)
