Capture NX2 file saving Problem - strange!

When I open and edit a jpeg file in Capture NX2 - I then save it - highest quality. When I then browse through photos in the same folder, the edited files are darker and differ from photos I did not edit. The photo seems okay when I click and open it - but if I upload the folder to Picasa, the photo stays dark. If I upload it to Smugmug, it seems fine. I find this very strange. Do you think I am doing something wrong? I'd apppreciate any help of suggestions you have. Thank. Joanne
