--I just started doing selections using layer masks and find it quite successful. If anyone wants to try it, here are my steps. 1. duplicate image layer and turn off original 2. add layer under duplicate layer filled with contrasting color 3. add layer mask to duplicate image layer and mask out area around desired selection using 100% hard brush for accuracy 4. right click on mask icon in layer icon and click on "Set Selection to Layer Mask" to create selection 5. save selection (Select>Save Selection) 6. delete or turn off masked layer and contrast layer and turn image back on 7. if necessary, switch to Quick Mask to correct selection and resave it 8. feather selection as desired (tip:use Quick Mask and Gaussian blur) Bill Richardson Barrington, IL (USA)
