When I go to the tool bar and choose layer-new fill layer, a new layer is added above my source image..... I fill it with white......it should already have the little mask emblem to the left of your white layer.....which lets you paint from the source below the white layer.....I then lower the white layer opacity.....so I can see what I'm doing. Then, when I'm using either the brush or pencil tool.....it pulls from the image. Make sense? I hope it does.
