In addition to those methods, here's a method called a contrast mask:

1 - Duplicate your image
2 - Go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate
2 - Set blending mode to "Overlay"
3 - Hit Ctrl + I to invert the image
4 - Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur and move the slider until your image is satisfactory

Here's an example with a g blur setting of 25:
