...of cropping is using the regtangle selection tool and you'd have 3 options for Style: normal, constrained aspect ratio, fixed size. Choose constrained aspect ratio and put in width=2 height=3 for 4x6, width=4 height=5 for 8x10, width=2.5 height=3.5 for 5x7. Then draw the regtangle selection on the part you want to keep on the photo and go to image>crop (you can move the selection around before cropping). Voila!
Sometimes I don't want to crop any part of my photo then, for example I change my image size to width=4, my height becomes 5.5 or something around that, before saving I'd go to image>canvas size and change the height to 6. I'll end up having 2 empty stripes at the end of the photo back from the lab which I can easily cut off. The photo ends up less than 4x6 but my composition stay whole.
