sharpening is a big subject and hotly debated here, but for most everything I use the same technique, and many here too favor this:

Image>mode>lab color
go to the channels palette and click the "lightness"layer
filter>sharpen>unsharp mask; start with values something like: amount-50,radius-3, threshold-1, you just have to play with the sliders, watch the hair in the preview, oversharpening often shows up there first.
when you like it, click OK
then: Image>mode>rgb.
