I am new to working in 16-bit images and I'm confused as to why the RGB readings in the info palette give such high numbers when you run the eyedropper tool over an area. (In 8-bit, we get 0-255 which is easy to understand, in 16 bit we get 5-digit read outs which I don't know how to interpret).

In my limited experience (both in amount of images and in training) I can't really tell if working in 16-bit really makes any difference in the end. I print 90% of the time and can't detect either improved quality or richer colors. Maybe the experts can tell me what to look for. I was expecting to notice something obvious.

Do you think that, for the layman producing up to 8x10 color prints for personal use, working in 16 bit provides a benefit?
