"If only I had a studio strobe system!" How often have you found yourself saying that? There's no doubt that a professional lighting set-up will enable you to do remarkable things, but too often we forget that natural lighting is perfect. In fact, studios often use their strobes to emulate natural light - particularly window light.
European master portrait painters used the light of a north-facing window for their work, often redesigning their home to accommodate their art. While we may not have such freedom, we can still make use of the soft light from a window set up our formal shots. We may require a fast lens or a tripod, but the point is you don't need a studio light to take an outstanding portrait.
This challenge requires a formal pose in window light, where the person is looking into the camera. The rules forbid sunbeams for a very specific reason; sunbeams do not provide the same quality of light as what we know as "window light." Just because it comes through a window, does not make it window light.
If your image is disqualified state your case reasonably. If your argument is compelling, your image can be readmitted. Being disqualified is always an opportunity for learning ... if you choose that route. You have a chance to enter a better photo (unlike the final voting procedure where you take your chances with a fickle audience).
If you believe an image should not be permitted in the challenge, use the "Complaint" button and explain why (only the host sees the complaint). Do so well before voting begins, however!
