I have the 1980FXi-BK. It has nice, natural color - not overdone like many other monitors I've seen. It's sharp, the text is good and it is well-suited for photo editing. It takes a while to get used to the very reflective surface of the panel, though. Ambient lighting has to be properly positioned for maximum effectiveness.
Other monitors that I've used that also work well are the Samsung PVA-based 940T and the LG L1930B. The 940T has better blacks and excellent contrast, without being too bright, while the 1930B is very nice with minimal tweaking.
I've been around the block with LCDs and have found that "doing your homework" is very important. There are a lot of sub-standard panels out there, many of which suffer poor viewing angle, poor black tones, inaccurate color, excessive brightness, etc.
