I'm new to DSLRs and the recommendations I've been getting for a first DSLR is driving me crazy. I decided to switch to DSLRs mainly because P&S capture really bad images at night but besides that (size wise etc) I'm fine with them. I also take quite a lot of portraits and landscape shots and the occasional concert snaps, but very rarely take action pictures. I'll be traveling around the east cost and canada in a few weeks so that's the main reason why I've been looking around.

I've also looked into the 50D/40D and D90/80 but as my family is going to be sharing the camera with me, they don't want something that would be too complicated for them. (ie, they want it to act like a P&S). I've also thought about getting the 50mm f1.8 if i do get the XSi as i've heard that it's a pretty sharp lens.

So price aside, which one would you guys recommend?
