I've managed to get some great advice on the forums so far so thanks to all.

I've decided to purchase a Nikon D300S and would like to purchase the right lenses rather than kick myself down the line.

Would it be better for me to go for a 10-24 or 16-85 (or similar) for everyday shots of family, pets, sunsets, walks in the park, holiday snaps etc? & could anyone recommend a particular good quality lens.

On the other end of the scale I'd like a big lens for wildlife and bird shots. Nikon 70-300VR11 has been suggested but it's not been released yet. Is this enough or do I need to stretch to a 400? and will I get extra focussing speed, quality etc with either of these?

Basically I can afford to get 2 good lenses

Thanks
